7 safety rules in social networks

Now, in the era of the Internet, it’s hard to imagine a person who does not use at least one of the social networks. To universal use we have “Facebook”, “Instagram”, and “Snapchat”, and even a lot of not so popular resources for communication and chat. Social networks are used by everyone – both young and old.

In addition to ordinary people who want to find friends or coworkers, in Internet there is a huge number of hackers, scammers and thieves, who wish to warm their hands on inattentiveness of  social resource users.

In order to protect yourself as much as possible from the risks that social networks carry, it is necessary to follow a number of simple rules.

By adhering to these rules, you can be sure that you will not only secure your financial situation, but, perhaps, protect your life!

Create a difficult password

When registering your account on social networks, try to come up with the most complicated password. This reduces the possibility of hacking your page several times. For passwords, do not use birth dates, phone or other personal information. The best password is a combination that is easy for you to remember and the complexity of the combination for strangers. Never give your registration data and passwords to anyone!

Add to friends only people you know.

Well, or in case of emergency, do not be lazy, and study the information on the page of an unknown person. The authenticity of information is indicated by the presence of photos from life, real friends, live communication with them through their account, etc.

Avoid important or business talks

Try to never conduct important business and personal negotiations through social networks. Do not forward photos and scan copies of documents, bank details, telephone numbers. No one can guarantee that this  information will not be transferred to third parties and will be safe. For such things it is better to use e-mail, that can be secured by spam filters like Everycloud or Spamassassin.

Do not tell about your travel plans

Do not take out to public attention the information about upcoming trips and travels, now by name and surname it’s easy to find out the address of your residence, and this can also be used not for your benefit.

Never click on links you do not know.

Thus, it can not only infect a personal computer with a malicious virus, but also gives an opportunity to learn a lot about you. Once you click on the link, you install a phishing program, through which scammers collect information from your computer.

Try not to publish photos of your children.

There are two concerns about it. One is the information that you share publicly about your children, which might include things like date of birth, place of birth, the child’s full name, or tagging of any photos with a geographical location – anything that could be used by someone who wants to steal your child’s identity. The second issue is a respect to the child’s future. What type of information would your kids want to see about themselves online when they grow up?

Treat social networks with the utmost care.

Always think before writing anything, would it harm you and your loved ones. All information coming from you should be only general.

Following these simple rules, attention and caution – all this in complex will help to protect yourself from intruders and avoid many troubles connected with breaking your personal page in social networks.
